Within the industry, there has been arisen a misconception that high-capacity ginning results in lower-quality fiber. However, when the ginnery and all its sub-systems have been properly designed, operated, and maintained, this has been shown not to be the case. Increased ginning capacity without compromised quality will continue to be one of the major goals of the industry, since it will result in lower per-bale ginning costs and more cotton being processed in a given amount of time. 2, record 6, English, - ginning%20capacity

Shattering is a measure of strength that spike retains the caryopses. In strong wind conditions, loosely held, mature caryopses may fall out of the spike and thus represent yield loss. Most current cultivars have very good shattering resistance. In the durum/CPS program operated at the University of Saskatchewan, regular notes on this trait are not taken as good shattering resistance exists in the germplasm base of both wheat types. Shattering lines are immediately discarded when observed. 2, record 23, English, - resistant%20to%20shattering

Mechanical corn shellers that were turned by hand or powered by horses were available in the mid 1800's. There were two main types of shellers: the picker-wheel sheller and the cylinder or cage-type sheller. In the picker-wheel sheller the cob was shelled as it was rubbed between a rough surfaced rotating iron disk and a guide wheel which wedged the cob close to the disk until it was shelled. The shelled corn was thrown out the side of the sheller and the shelled corn dropped through the bottom of the sheller into a container. 1, record 28, English, - picker%2Dwheel%20sheller

2, record 28, French, - ramasseuse%2D%C3%A9greneuse%20sur%20roues
