Ces enclenchements ont pour but d’immobiliser le levier de commande d’un organe dans la position où il se trouve lorsque les conditions de sécurité nécessaires au changement de position de cet organe ne sont pas réalisées. Ils interviennent, d’une façon générale, lorsque l'enclenchement mécanique vient à cesser après remise en position normale du levier du signal commandant le passage,(le mécanicien a alors franchi le signal et le train n’ a pas encore dégagé le passage).
