What is MASH? This is a serious form of another condition called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). It used to be called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). With MASH, your liver swells from excess fat along with inflammation. MASH can cause cell damage that affects how well your liver works. Over time (usually many years), you may get liver scarring that doesn't heal. Doctors call this cirrhosis, but it doesn't happen to everyone. 4, record 2, English, - metabolic%20dysfunction%2Dassociated%20steatohepatitis

Hu and members of his laboratory are working to develop an artificial liver that might buy enough time for a faltering liver to recuperate or a failed liver to be replaced. His design combines man-made machinery with a colony of liver cells, called hepatocytes. Hu's experimental device uses pig cells because they are similar to human cells and more readily available. Unlike the heart, which has one major physiologic function, the liver is a complex metabolic factory with multiple functions essential for survival," Hu said.

Bile acids are steroids, having a hydroxyl group, and a five-carbon-atom side chain terminating in a carboxyl group. Cholic acid is the most abundant bile acid in human bile. Others are deoxycholic and lithocholic acids. The bile acids do not occur free in bile but are linked to the amino acids, glycine and taurine. These conjugated acids are water-soluble; their salts are powerful detergents and as such, aid in the absorption of fats from the intestine. 4, record 43, English, - bile%20acid

2, record 55, French, - %C3%A9tude%20du%20pouvoir%20mutag%C3%A8ne%20sur%20microorganismes

The liver has been described as a collection of units called lobules, each of which contains, in its centre, a branch of the hepatic vein and, in its outer areas, a complex known as a portal tract. The portal tract includes a bile duct, a small branch of the portal vein, and a branch of the hepatic artery. 1, record 58, English, - portal%20tract
Record number: 58, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The hepatic lobules are small structural units of the liver enclosed by a thin layer of connective tissue formed by the branches of the Glisson's capsule. Where several lobules join, the connective tissue is more abundant and encloses a blood vessel, vein, nerves, lymphatic vessels, and small bile ducts. The structures together with the connective tissue form the "portal canals". 2, record 58, English, - portal%20tract
