The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty adopted on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea. Thus, though nowadays the name of the Convention is usually written "Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971)", it has come to be known popularly as the "Ramsar Convention"... The official name of the treaty - The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat - reflects its original emphasis on the conservation and wise use of wetlands primarily to provide habitat for waterbirds. Over the years, however, the Convention has broadened its scope to cover all aspects of wetland conservation and wise use, recognizing wetlands as ecosystems that are extremely important for biodiversity conservation in general and for the well-being of human communities. For this reason, the increasingly common use of the short form of the treaty's title, the "Convention on Wetlands", is entirely appropriate. The Convention entered into force in 1975 ... UNESCO serves as Depositary for the Convention, but its administration has been entrusted to a secretariat known as the "Ramsar Bureau", which is housed in the headquarters of IUCN-The World Conservation Union in Gland, Switzerland, under the authority of the Conference of the Parties and the Standing Committee of the Convention 1, record 7, English, - Convention%20on%20Wetlands%20of%20International%20Importance%20especially%20as%20Waterfowl%20Habitat

1, record 7, Spanish, - Convenci%C3%B3n%20relativa%20a%20los%20Humedales%20de%20Importancia%20Internacional%2C%20especialmente%20como%20H%C3%A1bitat%20de%20Aves%20Acu%C3%A1ticas

[The] Munsell Colour Chart [or] Munsell chart is used to bring some consistency into the recording of the colours of archaeological items, features and, most commonly, soils and sediments. The chart consists of a book of coloured paint samples each individually numbered. This means that if a person records a sherd of pottery as being the same as colour sample number 10YR5/6 on the chart anyone else with a chart can see exactly what colour that is. The book contains only those colours frequently seen in soils but the Munsell system can record any colour. It is produced by the refraction of light through the 90° prisms of ice crystals, having entered through the horizontal bases and passed out through the vertical sides. Normally, the crystals are large, oriented, hexagonal plates. The circumzenithal arc is the high sky counterpart of the circumhorizontal arc. The circumhorizontal arc is low in the sky when the sun is high (above 58° elevation); the circumzenithal arc is high in the sky when the sun is low (below 32° elevation). The majority of circumzenithal arcs are short-lived, short in length and faint or moderately bright. However, very colorful circumhorizontal arcs can occur when the refraction is close to the minimum angle of deviation, corresponding to a solar elevation angle of about 22°. 3, record 12, English, - circumzenithal%20arc

3, record 12, French, - arc%20circumz%C3%A9nithal

When the sun sets, sometimes the last bit of light from the disk itself is an emerald green. The same is true of the first bit of light from the rising sun. This phenomenon is known as the "green flash" or "green ray". It is not an optical illusion. The green flash is common and will be visible any time the sun is rises or sets on a "clear", "unobstructed", and "low" horizon. ... The explanation for the green flash is thus, 1) refraction separates the solar images by color; 2) at just the right instant, the red image has set, 3) the yellow image is absorbed; and 4) the blue image is scattered away. We are left with the upper limb of the green image. Because the green flash is primarily a refraction effect, it lasts longer and is easier to see from a mountain top than from sea level. 3, record 14, English, - green%20flash

3, record 14, French, - rayon%20vert
