Since the low cost sensor technologies available present several limitations to their inclusion in this system, it was developed and implemented a low cost sensor, as described by Valente et al. (1997), based on the heat-pulse and capacitance methods. In the first method the maximum temperature rise measured at some distance from a line heat source can be used to determine the volumetric heat capacity and hence the water content of a porous media, such as soil. The second method relates the volumetric water content with the capacitance change of a probe, inserted in the soil, according to its dielectric proprieties. Simultaneous use of both methods improves sensor accuracy, gives built-in fault detection capability, and makes possible self-calibration procedures. ... In a capacitance-based method, the soil moisture can be obtained by measuring the capacitance that varies with the dielectric properties of materials. 1, record 6, English, - capacitance%2Dbased%20method

Climate has a great influence on soil moisture conditions. The engineering behaviour of soils is governed in large measure by their moisture contents. Most clay subsoils exist in an approximate state of moisture equilibrium that may be seriously disrupted by construction drainage or irrigation. Lawn watering in urban area can have results equivalent to a substantial increase in rainfall ... This practice often results in a marked increase in subsoil moisture and volume and brings about new problems for shallow foundations. 2, record 7, English, - equilibrium%20moisture%20content

1, record 36, French, - combustibles%20morts

It is usually expressed as a weight percentage, but may be expressed as a volume percentage. It is approximately the same as [one-third] bar percentage.
