Roofing bitumen is the primary adhesion/waterproofing agent used between roofing plies. Bitumen arrives at the job site in solid form, but is heated and applied as a liquid. Le bitume chaud est un adhésif courant. Il a traditionnellement été utilisé pour liaisonner les épaisseurs de feutres des membranes multicouches, pour agir comme hydrofuge dans la membrane et pour liaisonner la membrane et les autres éléments de couverture. Il existe aussi des bitumes conçus pour être appliqués à froid. Ceux-ci peuvent être liquéfiés avec du solvant ou par émulsification dans de l'eau.
