Canada has been blessed by able and dynamic prime ministers who have developed a vision for our nation and its place in the world. Their public careers have had a profound impact on our history and evolution as a country. In recognition of this contribution, our deceased prime ministers have been designated as persons of national historic significance. In addition, to acknowledge their important role, in 1999 the Government of Canada announced a program designed to protect and honour the grave sites of our Canadian prime ministers. The objective of the National Program for the Grave Sites of Canadian Prime Ministers is to ensure that the grave sites are conserved and recognized in a respectful and dignified manner. Another important objective of the program is to provide Canadians with information on the lives and accomplishments of each former prime minister, as well as the locations of their final resting places. 1, record 5, English, - National%20Program%20for%20the%20Grave%20Sites%20of%20Canadian%20Prime%20Ministers

1, record 5, French, - Programme%20national%20des%20lieux%20de%20s%C3%A9pulture%20des%20premiers%20ministres%20du%20Canada

A city of the Yukon Territory and its capital since 1953, located at kilometre 1476, just off the Alaska Highway. The city lies mainly on the western side of the Yukon River, nestled in a protected valley surrounded by Canyon Mountain (locally known as Grey Mountain) to the east, Haeckel Hill to the northwest and Golden Horn Mountain to the south. Located at the head of navigation on the Yukon River, Whitehorse grew significantly by becoming a temporary stopping point --past two major obstacles on the river, Miles Canyon and the Whitehorse Rapids-- for prospectors heading for Dawson (then known as "Dawson City") during the Klondike Gold Rush Years (1897-1899). In 1900, with the completion of the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway from Skagway in Alaska, to Carcross and Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, the community grew around the point where the railway and river met, on the western side of the Yukon River. After the gold rush, Whitehorse's population dropped, but with the help of navigation and aviation companies, the British Yukon Navigation Company building riverboats and operating them to Dawson until 1954, and the British Yukon Aviation Company transporting mail, freight and passengers, the economy was kept afloat. During World War II, Whitehorse played a significant role as a key link in the north-south transportation system, hosting the Americans and Canadians in charge of expanding the air link that was the Northwest Staging Route (a series of airfields across the Northwest), building the 2300-km Alaska Highway, or constructing the Canol Pipeline from Norman Wells, N.W.T., and an oil refinery at Whitehorse. In 1950, Whitehorse was incorporated as a city. In 1953, the territorial capital of the Yukon was moved from Dawson to Whitehorse, adding the government sector to an economy made of the mining (copper, silver and lead-zinc), tourist and oil industries. Though the mines shut down in Yukon and the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway ended its operations 2, record 22, English, - Whitehorse

Quebec City, August 14 1998 - The Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State (Parks), today announced the unveiling of a plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, commemorating the national historical significance of the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776. "Quebec City is a precious witness to the military history of Canada," said Mr. Mitchell. "I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a reenactment of battles on the Plains of Abraham this weekend as part of the event Taking the Capital by Storm." This plaque recalls the victory against the American troops assaulting Quebec City in 1775, during the American Revolution. The displays of force of the Canadian and British detachments prevented the American invaders from taking the colony. The unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776 follows recommendations made by the Board. 1, record 29, English, - Taking%20the%20Capital%20by%20Storm

1, record 32, French, - Lieu%20historique%20national%20de%20la%20Grosse%2D%C3%8Ele%2Det%2Dle%2DM%C3%A9morial%2Ddes%2DIrlandais

Natural law (or law of nature). The belief in natural law and natural law theories has been one of the most ancient and persistent themes in philosophy, and in legal history and theory. In general, it denotes belief in a system of right or justice common to all men prescribed by the supreme controlling force in the universe and distinct from positive law, law laid down by any particular state or other human organization. The starting points of all natural law thinking have been "reason" and "the nature of man". But there have always been disagreements about the meaning of natural law and its relation to positive law. 4, record 53, English, - natural%20law

2, record 65, French, - replacer%20dans%20son%20contexte
