In evaluating the safety of food residues, the most appropriate NOAEL [no observed adverse effect level] is divided by a safety factor, usually of 100. This number may be lower or higher, depending on a number of factors considered in the hazard assessment, such as the type of effect observed. This action plan is based on three fundamental principles: 1) industry has a responsibility for the safety of products it brings onto the market; 2) consumers and health professionals need access to accurate information to make informed decisions; and (3) Government must have the clear authority it requires to address health and safety risks. The Action Plan proposes to enhance Canada's health and safety protection system by: supporting collaboration; strengthening safety programs; and replacing outdated statutes with new regimes. Fundamental to the Action Plan is a focus on active prevention, targeted oversight and rapid response. 1, record 22, English, - Food%20and%20Consumer%20Safety%20Action%20Plan

The Vaccine Associated Adverse Events Surveillance System (VAAESS) has had its name changed to Canadian Adverse Events Following Immunization Surveillance System (CAEFISS). This new name is in harmony with international standards and emphasizes that reported events follow immunization but are not necessarily associated with vaccine. The Canadian Adverse Events Following Immunization Surveillance System (CAEFISS) was developed to provide a national monitoring system for reporting adverse events and suspected adverse events following immunization. The objectives of the system are to: ensure continued safety of marketed vaccines in Canada; monitor adverse effects that may be caused by a vaccine; identify any unusually high rates of adverse events, both with individual vaccines and individual lots of vaccine; provide timely information that can be made available to potential recipients as well as health care providers so that they can weigh the risks and benefits of immunization, and identify areas that require further epidemiologic investigation and research or problems that require immediate investigation. 1, record 53, English, - Canadian%20Adverse%20Events%20Following%20Immunization%20Surveillance%20System

The marketing authorization must set out, inter alia, the name of the product, the pharmaceutical dosage form, the quantitative formula (including excipients) per unit dose (using INNs [international nonproprietary names] or national generic names where they exist), the shelf-life and storage conditions, and packaging characteristics. It specifies the information on which authorization is based (e.g. "The product(s) must conform with all the details provided in the application and as modified in subsequent correspondence"). It also contains the product information approved for health professionals and the public, the sales category, the name and address of the holder of the authorization, and the period of validity of the authorization. 1, record 82, French, - chauffage%20aux%20micro%2Dondes

A fine shade of meaning separates "commercial product" from "formulation". Both terms usually refer to the same physical preparation, but where the word "formulation" stresses the product's physical presentation (liquid, powder, number or type of adjuvants, etc.), "commercial product" indicates that the product is commercially available (some are not), or that the product has not yet undergone further processing since purchase. The word is most frequently used in calculating amounts of pesticide necessary for tank mixes to be sprayed on crops. 5, record 86, English, - commercial%20product
