The use of fluorescent dye penetrants in inspection is rapidly increasing ... the penetrant contains a dyestuff which fluoresces brilliantly in ultra-violet or "black" light. Undoubtedly, flaws revealed by this process are more easily seen and by this method it is possible to identify minute defects which could escape detection using red penetrants. 1, record 1, English, - fluorescent%20dye%20penetrant

Few modern pesticides are usable in the technical form. Generally, the chemical is extended or diluted, thereby enabling a more economic coverage of the area or a reduction in the possibility of damage to vegetation. This is usually done by mixing the technical material with a neutral carrier. The carrier may be a liquid in which the pesticide is dissolved or suspended, or it may be an inert dust or granule. 3, record 2, English, - carrier
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS

The use of fluid penetrants is particularly valuable in detecting discontinuities open to the surface, such as cracks, pores, and blowholes in nonmagnetic materials although it can be used on magnetic material if desired. The work to be tested is immersed in or coated with a fluid of low surface tension. Any surface opening or discontinuity will permit the entrance of the fluid. The excess fluid is removed from the surface and that which remains in the defect will then flow or creep and outline the defect. 1, record 12, English, - fluid%20penetrant

1, record 14, French, - liquide%20d%27impr%C3%A9gnation

In fluorescent penetrant inspection a fluorescent liquid is applied to the surface of the workpiece and enters the surface discontinuities. The excess penetrant is removed before the piece is examined under intense ultraviolet light. 1, record 15, French, - essai%20%C3%A0%20grande%20sensibilit%C3%A9
