Lateral resolution is strongly coupled to sample height, with taller structures having greater tip artifact and less resolution than flat structures. For example, the banded structures of polytene chromosomes may only have 50 nm lateral resolution, whereas the interband regions of the polytene chromosome have a maximum lateral resolution of 20 nm, and individual strands of DNA can be resolved down to 3-5 nm in width. 2, record 3, English, - lateral%20resolution

A confocal laser scanning microscope is a light microscope having a dramatically higher axial resolution than a conventional microscope. In other words, a confocal microscope is capable of optical sectioning. This is accomplished by illuminating the specimen one point at a time with a focused laser beam and using an optical arrangement, where only the light originating from the focus can be detected. The image is formed by scanning the laser beam over the specimen and recording the image into computer memory. A three-dimensional view of the specimen can be reconstructed from a stack of such images taken at successive focal planes. 2, record 4, English, - axial%20resolution

Type I involves the physis but spares the epiphysis and metaphysis. Type II is similar to type I but a triangular segment of metaphysis is fractured and accompanies the separated epiphyseal fragment. Type III extends from the joint through the epiphysis to the physis, and then along the physis, dislodging a segment of epiphysis. Type IV passes through the joint surface, epiphysis, physis, and metaphysis. Type V is a crushing of the physis.
