Alenia Aeronautica and Targetti have realized a simulator which is able to reproduce the lighting conditions present when flying at an altitude of 10000 meters, inside a real airplane. ... In fact, being able to realistically reproduce natural light opens the way to potentially infinite applications: from the assessment of architectural models to studying the lighting "behavior" of materials and surfaces, to various design requirements, including aircraft instrumentation legibility tests at high quotas, which has been the particular focus of the work carried out by Alenia and Targetti. According to international regulations, aeronautical instrumentation displays, especially those of military aircraft with transparent cockpits, must be approved by tests which involve actually flying the airplane in order to assess performance in real lighting conditions. The costs and risks are obvious as is the value of creating a system which can recreate the light conditions of an aircraft in flight while it is still on the ground. 3, record 11, English, - sky%20light%20simulator

On November 11, Saint Martin's day, children in Flanders, the northern parts of the Netherlands, the Catholic areas of Germany and in Austria participate in paper lantern processions. Often, a man dressed as Saint Martin rides on a horse in front of the procession. The children sing songs about Saint Martin and about their lantern. The food traditionally eaten on the day is goose. According to legend, Martin was reluctant to become bishop, which is why he hid in a stable filled with geese. The noise made by the geese betrayed his location to the people who were looking for him. Also in the east part of the Belgian province East-Flanders, children receive presents from Saint Martin on November 11, instead of from Saint Nicholas on December 6, or Santa Claus on December 25. 1, record 14, English, - Saint%20Martin%27s%20day

1, record 14, French, - f%C3%AAte%20de%20la%20Saint%2DMartin

Atmospheric visibility is basically a measure of how clear the air is. It is often defined in terms of a visual range (how far an observer can see) and is expressed in nautical miles, miles or kilometers. Precipitation, clouds, and air pollution can reduce atmospheric visibility by increasing the number of small particles in the air that absorb and scatter light. 4, record 19, English, - atmospheric%20visibility

... pollutants in the atmosphere can degrade visibility, especially near towns and cities. Usually visibility is affected by natural [meteorological] factors such as fog, sea salt particles or low cloud, but sometimes pollution from human activities decreases visibility by causing haze and smog. Sources of this pollution include emissions from vehicles, pollution from home fires and industrial activities. 5, record 19, English, - atmospheric%20visibility

2, record 24, French, - phare%20%C3%A0%20d%C3%A9charge%20%C3%A0%20haute%20intensit%C3%A9

Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is an ultrahigh-strength cementitious composite with advanced mechanical properties, superior physical characteristics and unprecedented ductility and extremely low permeability. It is composed of customary concrete components, which are selected for specific chemistry, particle size and hydraulic activity. RPC material can be mixed and placed under normal construction conditions and engineered to address specific casting requirements. 2, record 26, English, - reactive%20powder%20concrete

RPC was first developed in the early 1990's by researchers at the laboratory of HDR's former parent company, Bouygues S.A., Paris, France. Pierre Claude Aitcin, Scientific Director of Concrete Canada at the University of Sherbrooke, was instrumental in moving RPC from the lab to the field with the application of RPC on the Sherbrooke Pedestrian/Bikeway Bridge in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Bouygues was the lead designer on this project and HDR provided design consulting services. 2, record 26, English, - reactive%20powder%20concrete
