2, record 5, French, - saison%20d%27%C3%A9clipse

When a month has two full moons the second is known as a "blue" moon, though it only rarely has a blue tint that unusual atmospheric conditions can supply. Occasionally the moon takes on unusual colors, but most often it tends to be reddish, reports Guy Ottewell of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. The occasional blue or bluish-green moon can take place when a lot of dust is present in the air, such as after a volcanic eruption, Ottewell notes in his Astronomical Calendar 1999. 5, record 28, English, - green%20moon

... blue moon ... For half a century, it's been known as the second full moon in a month ... But that's wrong ... The magazine [Sky & Telescope] incorrectly defined the term 53 years ago. James Hugh Pruett wrote a 1946 piece for the magazine after apparently misinterpreting a complex 1937 article in the Maine Farmer's Almanac that essentially, but not clearly, said a blue moon occurs when a season has four full moons, rather than the usual three. Pruett mistakenly thought it meant having a second full moon within the same month. Pruett's mistake went unnoticed for decades. ... Although Sky & Telescope's editors think Pruett's mistake led to the popular modern mis-definition of "blue moon," it's unclear where the Maine Farmer's Almanac came up with the rule. The almanac is defunct. Pruett died in 1955. ... By either definition -- Pruett's or the almanac's -- blue moons occur about every two or three years ... Although purists may subscribe to the almanac's point of view, Sinnott thinks Pruett's error will prevail. 5, record 29, English, - blue%20moon

The term lunar soil is often used interchangeably with "lunar regolith" but typically refers to the finer fraction of regolith, that which is composed of grains one centimeter in diameter or less. Some have argued that the term "soil" is not correct in reference to the Moon because soil is defined as having organic content, whereas the Moon has none.

4, record 53, French, - r%C3%A9golithe%20lunaire

A night time rainbow is sometimes called a moon bow because it is a reflection of the light of the moon. ... Any rainbow comes from light hitting drops of rain and going into the drop and being reflected off of the inside edge. As the light leaves the drop on it's return journey the other side of the drop acts like a prism and separates it into the colors of the rainbow. ... with moon light it makes something shaped like a rainbow with just a hint color. Moon bows occur in the side of the sky opposite the moon. 2, record 74, English, - moonbow
Record number: 74, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Even though the optics of both is the same, the luminance of the lunar rainbow is much lower. As a result of the eye's reduced sensitivity to color at low light levels, the bow may exhibit little color. There are several reasons why the lunar rainbow is seen much less frequently than the solar bow. While the moon and sun spend equal time above the horizon, when they are both present, only a solar bow can be seen. This, by itself, means that the lunar rainbow could form only half as often. Further, the moon goes through phases, and so even at night may not contribute enough light to produce a discernible bow. Finally, the convective showers in which the rainbow is frequently seen are much less common at night. 6, record 74, English, - moonbow

The xenon ion propulsion system, or XIPS (pronounced "zips"), is the culmination of nearly four decades of research into the use of electric propulsion as an alternative to conventional chemical propulsion. ... the increased efficiency possible with XIPS allows for a reduction in propellant mass of up to 90% for a satellite designed for 12 to 15 years operation. Less propellant results in reduced cost for launch, an increase in payload, or an increase in satellite lifetime, or any combination of the above. ... The on-board XIPS system is used primarily for spacecraft stationkeeping. Small thrusts are required to correct for the tug of solar or lunar gravity and to reposition the satellite in its proper orbit and altitude. A satellite's lifetime as well as its launch weight is thus determined by the amount of fuel aboard for its thruster system. While most current satellites use a chemical bipropellant propulsion system, a XIPS-equipped satellite instead uses the impulse generated by a thruster ejecting electrically charged particles at high velocities. XIPS requires only one propellant, xenon, and does its stationkeeping job using a fraction of that required by a chemical propellant system. 3, record 79, English, - xenon%20ion%20propulsion%20system

1, record 79, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20%C3%A0%20propulsion%20ionique%20au%20x%C3%A9non
