Hurricane spiral bands consist of individual convective cells associated with small-scale cumulus convection. The thunderstorms within the spiral bands are organized into regions of rising and sinking air. In contrast to the motion of the band, which moves considerably slower than the mean wind speed, the individual cells tend to move with the mean wind in the layer in which they are embedded. Convection. Process of heat [(transfer of heat)] carried from one point to another by movement of a liquid or a gas (i.e., air). Natural convection is caused by expansion of the liquid or gas when heated. Expansion reduces the density of the medium, causing it to rise above the cooler, more dense portions of the medium. Gravity heating systems are examples of the profitable use of natural convection. The air, heated by the furnace, becomes less dense (consequently lighter) and rises, distributing heat to the various areas of the house without any type of blower. When a blower is used, the heat transfer method is called "forced convection." 5, record 16, English, - natural%20convection

2, record 20, French, - instabilit%C3%A9%20de%20Rayleigh%2DB%C3%A9nard

Up until now the envelope equations have been written for a laterally unbounded system. The presence of side boundaries that confine the system can modify the instability mechanism. For example, in convection, viscous friction at a lateral wall increases the damping, which inhibits the instability. By contrast, a thermal perturbation in the wall or simply a difference of thermal conductivity between the fluid and the wall, can build up a horizontal temperature gradient that may induce a fluid motion, thus encouraging the instability. In both cases, we expect lateral boundary effects to impose modulations and act as boundary conditions on the envelope. 1, record 21, English, - lateral%20boundary%20effect

1, record 21, French, - effet%20de%20paroi%20lat%C3%A9rale
