To maintain a stable perception of the world around us while we engage in normal movements throughout our day, such as walking, we have something known as the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). This reflex keeps us steady and balanced even though our eyes and head are continuously moving when we perform most actions. When we make a head movement, our eye muscles are triggered instantly to create an eye movement opposite to that of our head movement at the exact same speed to readjust the visual world, which, in turn, stabilizes our retinal image by keeping the eye still in space and focused on an object, despite the head motion. 8, record 1, English, - vestibulo%2Docular%20reflex

Rigidity in space. The gyroscope resists turning. When it is "gimbaled" (free to move in a given direction) such that it is free to move either in 1, 2 or 3 dimensions, any surface such as an instrument dial attached to the gyro assembly will remain rigid in space even though the case of the gyro turns. 3, record 6, French, - inertie%20gyroscopique
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT

1, record 11, French, - quantification%20angulaire

JUDO. A characteristic foot throw is de ashi harai [de-ashi-harai]. Tori first shifts uke's weight toward uke's left side. Using the bottom of his left foot, tori sweeps his opponent's right foot, putting opponent's weight entirely onto his left leg and without support on his right side. Tori sharply reverses direction of arm movement, wheeling opponent around and down in the direction of no support. Tori completes the throw by follow-through of arm and leg movements, pulling uke down as the swept foot is lifted, cross-body. A clean throw puts uke onto the mat on his back or side. 5, record 12, English, - de%2Dashi%2Dharai

JUDO. 1, record 13, French, - kuzushi

If energy is fed into the azimuthal motion of a particle, it will be brought to an orbit of increasing diameter which has a longer period of revolution. Thus a force in the positive azimuthal direction produces a phase lag and azimuthal bunching of particles. The latter therefore behave as if they have negative mass, which produces a displacement in the opposite direction to an applied force. 2, record 15, English, - negative%20mass%20instability
