The throat chakra is the 5th chakra and like its name, it is centered in the throat area of the body. The areas it governs are the throat, mouth, ears, thyroid gland, arms and hands. The fifth chakra rules our abilities for communication, creativity, connection and personal intentions. It is also connected with our ability to communicate through hearing, speaking, and listening. It refers to both normal audible communication and the emotional and mental communication we all use in our relationships. It helps us speak the truth from our inner soul as our spiritual voice, as well as to make good decisions and to come up with good ideas. It is also represented by the color blue.

There are many things that are used to identify the crown chakra. The colour for this chakra is violet or white. In the body it governs the brain, the top of the head-midline above the ears and the nervous system. The gland that links them is the pineal gland. Anything that goes wrong with any of these areas will affect the crown chakra. Also, when the energy level is deficient it will affect these parts. The gemstones for this chakra are diamond, amethyst and rock crystal. Lotus and olibanum are used for aromatherapy while the metal for crown chakra is gold. When you see any of these symbols, you should know that they are associated with the crown chakra in the chakra system.

Muladhara or root chakra is symbolized by a lotus with four petals and the color red. This center is located at the base of the spine in the coccygeal region. It is said to relate to the gonads and the adrenal medulla, responsible for the fight-or-flight response when survival is under threat. Muladhara is related to instinct, security, survival and also to basic human potentiality. Physically, muladhara governs sexuality, mentally it governs stability, emotionally it governs sensuality, and spiritually it governs a sense of security. Muladhara has a relation to the sense of smell.

The navel chakra can be found between the navel and the bottom of the rib cage. The parts of the body affected are the navel, small intestine, pancreas, gall bladder, digestive system, kidney and the liver. This chakra is in charge of a person’s sense of self, where your self-esteem and will power come from. It is sometimes shown as meaning fire, and has aspects of powers that let a person "burn" out the pessimistic aspects of the past and achieve the power to rule and direct your life effectively. It can also help a person learn to meditate and cleanse their spirit from negative thoughts that sometimes cause us to take actions that we later regret. This chakra is a fire element and so it is related to feelings of being thirsty or hungry, or being tired.

The sacral chakra is located in the sacrum (hence the name) and is considered to correspond to the testes or the ovaries that produce the various sex hormones involved in the reproductive cycle. Swadisthana is also considered to be related to, more generally, the genitourinary system and the adrenals. The key issues involving swadisthana are relationships, violence, addictions, basic emotional needs, and pleasure. Physically, swadisthana governs reproduction, mentally it governs creativity, emotionally it governs joy, and spiritually it governs enthusiasm.

The sacral chakra is the second chakra out of the seven and can be found right below the belly button in the lower area of your stomach. This particular chakra is in charge of a person's sexual organs, lower portion of the spine, large intestines and the bladder.

Mulabandha is the root lock. It [is] so called because of its location at the base of [the] nerve tree, the spinal column. There is a difference of location for this bandha in males and in females. In males the seat of mulabandha is the perineal muscle, which is located in front of the anus and behind the genitals. In females the location is near the top of the cervix.

Moola bandha agit sur le corps périnéal et est donc relié à la base du cerveau dans le plancher crânien. Ce système filtre l’énergie et la redistribue dans les zones cérébrales pour maintenir le cerveau actif et conscient. Il sollicite aussi le système nerveux parasympatique qui apporte de la détente aussi bien au niveau cervical que sacré. L’alternance tension/relâchement provoque aussi une détente plus profonde. Cette contraction a une incidence sur le mouvement du péristaltique intestinal et facilite donc une meilleure évacuation. C’est aussi un exercice intéressant pour soulager les hémorroïdes (stagnation de sang) qui sont une conséquence d’une paresse veineuse. La contraction/relâchement de moola bandha active la circulation sanguine. Il permet de contrôler ou de maîtriser l’activité sexuelle : les traumatismes divers, l’éjaculation précoce, la frigidité, la tension, les tabous [...] Spirituellement, moola bandha éveille et réoriente l’énergie spirituelle vers le haut.
