[A] significant adsorptive characteristic is possessed not alone by carbons, charcoal and chars, but also by such materials as zeolite, silica, alumina, mica and some other. All these differ widely in the number and kinds of substances they adsorb, as well as in the amount of sorbed substances they will retain. In general, the silicaneous, metallic oxides and active earth types of adsorbents are electrically polar - that is, their molecular structure contains an unsymmetrical electron distribution. Since polar substances have strong attraction for one another and since water is highly polar, the polar adsorbents mentioned above retain water in preference to most other fluids and are, therefore, incapable of adsorbing non-aqueous gases efficiently from a humid atmosphere. For use in air conservation, however, which requires a sorbent to extract very small quantities of a very numerous variety of gases and vapors from either dry or humid air during a very brief interval of contact, non-polar adsorbents such as specially processed carbon of high activity, dense structure and extreme relative hardness have been found to be adequate. Activated carbon, being non-polar and hence electronically symmetrical in structure, has no particular affinity for moisture and preferentially adsorbs organic gases and vapors. 4, record 36, English, - nonpolar%20adsorbent

When both the amplitude and the phase information are available, it is possible to synthesize the polarization response for all the polarization states. To synthesize the response, phase information and two orthogonal (transmit and receive) polarization states are required. For example, most spaceborne SAR's (e.g. RADARSAT-2) use the HH and VV polarization configuration to satisfy the orthogonality condition. Three dimensional polarization response plots are typically used to illustrate the polarimetry response for a given target. The following conventions are commonly used: The radar response is normalized between 0 and 1 [.] The horizontal axes are the ellipticity angle ... and the orientation angle ... The ellipticity angle ranges between -45° (right circularly polarized) and +45° (left circularly polarized). When [ellipticity angle equals 0°, we have linear polarization. The orientation angle ... is usually defined between -90° and +90°, but is sometimes defined between 0° and +180°. 2, record 38, English, - ellipticity%20angle

In the U.S., air pressure at the surface is reported in inches of mercury while air pressure aloft is reported in millibars, also known as hectopascals (hPa). In these terms the atom is the unit of matter that contains a small, dense, positively charged nucleus surrounded by sufficient negative electrons to make the whole electrically neutral. Structure. All atoms are about the same size, and this fact is a clue to the nature of their structure. The atomic diameter is about 2 X 10[superscript] -8 cm (2 hundred-millionths of a centimeter). 2, record 64, French, - feuille%20de%20base%20enduite

As soon as work is started on a cut or fill section, centerline stakes may be destroyed by equipment and many of the slope stakes will be removed. In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. If the off-set stake is at a different elevation than the slope stake, then the cut or fill value will be increased or decreased by the difference in elevation. An offset stake placed a horizontal distance of 6 M and 0.3 M above the right slope stake mentioned above would be placed and marked .... 1, record 66, English, - off%2Dset%20stake
