To reduce pilot workload still further, Eurofighter Typhoon has a unique Voice Throttle And Stick (VTAS) system. This system allows the pilot to keep his Hands on Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) and operate the majority of the aircraft's controls from this position. Other commands can be give through Direct Voice Input (DVI). Due to the drastically reduced workload pilots are able to focus on the mission and systems operation. Une fonction jusqu'alors inédite sur un avion de combat, et qui a permis à ses concepteurs d’introduire la notion nouvelle de VTAS, pour Voice, Throttle and Stick(voix, manche et manettes). Ici aussi, la mission première du système est de soulager le pilote de tâches répétitives et non critiques : gestion de l'affichage, des communications, ou encore de la situation tactique globale. Le pilote peut ainsi désigner, assigner ou filtrer les pistes qui lui sont présentées sur son écran multifonctions, allégeant d’autant sa charge de travail dans une situation critique. In the above image I have gone to A2G mode, reflected by the change in the right MFD with ground radar now on. The Advanced Targetting FLIR has now been selected in the Up Front Controller. The A/GATFLIR consists of four pointing modes in addition to an Autotrack mode.
