Le banal œdème de Quincke, habituellement bénin et réversible de façon spontanée et généralement rapide, peut parfois s’accompagner d’œdème de la glotte entraînant un accès de suffocation, pouvant aller jusqu'à l'asphyxie et entraîner la mort du malade.
