An analytical or separation procedure similar to gel electrophoresis. It is used to separate proteins and other charged molecules on the basis of their isoelectric point. A series of ampholytes are used to establish a pH gradient within a support gel. The charged molecules migrate through the gel until they reach an equilibrium point at which they carry no net charge and thus are not affected by the electric field across the gel. 1, record 6, English, - isoelectric%20focusing
