Tetanus (lockjaw) is caused by neurotoxins produced by the bacteria Clostridium tetani, particularly in deep or closed wounds, such as puncture wounds, but may occur, due to intestinal infections. This highly fatal disease is a constant threat for all horses as the bacteria are widely distributed in soil and manure. ... Clinical signs of tetanus in affected horses begin following an incubation period of 3 days to several weeks, but usually 1 to 2 weeks. Muscle spasms and stiff paralysis progressing from the head to the neck, front, and then hind legs occurs. ... The horse may be unable to swallow, resulting in saliva dripping from the mouth and regurgitation of ingested food and water through the nose. 3, record 2, French, - t%C3%A9tanos

The second book of the set of works by the CIDECT [Committee International for the Development and the Study of Tubular construction] under the general title "Construction with Hollow Steel Sections" is dedicated to phenomena of instability: buckling, distortion, spreading. Because of the shape of its section and the particularly favourable distribution of matter in the straight section, a hollow profile, of circular or rectangular shape, behaves distinctly better than an open profile section under the demands of compression. In remaining within the limits of the relation of the diameter or the width of side divided by the thickness of partition, given in this dimensioning guide, the local hollow profile distortion can be disregarded. On the other hand, the resistance to spreading is, in practice, not verified because hollow profiles possess a distinctly larger polar rigidity than open section profiles. 1, record 14, English, - open%20section%20profile

2, record 14, French, - profil%20ouvert

Yet the commercial viability of farming in these areas has been increasingly dependent upon various headage payments which have led to environmental degradation through over-grazing. Under Agenda 2000, one headage payment (the Hill and Livestock Compensatory Amount or HLCA) is to be switched to an area basis. This represents a partial attempt to decouple support from production incentives and may reduce environmental damage. However, the response of farmers to this payment switch is uncertain, particularly given the continuance of various other headage payments. 2, record 15, English, - headage%20payment

A Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) is a bilateral agreement aimed at protecting and promoting foreign investment through legally-binding rights and obligations. FIPAs accomplish their objectives by setting out the respective rights and obligations of the countries that are signatories to the treaty with respect to the treatment of foreign investment. Typically, there are agreed exceptions to the obligations. FIPAs seek to ensure that foreign investors will not be treated worse than similarly situated domestic investors or other foreign investors; they will not have their investments expropriated without prompt and adequate compensation; and, in any case, they will not be subject to treatment lower than the minimum standard established in customary international law. As well, in most circumstances, investors should be free to invest capital and repatriate their investments and returns. 1, record 38, English, - Foreign%20Investment%20Promotion%20and%20Protection%20Agreement

Before the removal of a person whose refugee claim was not recognized by the IRB [Immigration and Refugee Board], a post-claim review is done by EIC [Employment and Immigration Canada]. If the review decision allows an application for landing in Canada, the removal order must first be carried out through the Buffalo Shuffle, which generally follows [these steps]. National headquarters advises the appropriate inland CIC [Canada Immigration Centre] of the decision. The individual is requested to come to the CIC, where the decision and procedures are explained. The shuffle is initiated at the convenience of the individual. The inland CIC sends a letter to the CIC at a border crossing to advise it that the entry of this individual is authorized. A letter is sent to the American immigration authorities advising them that the person will be readmitted into Canada through the issuance of a Minister's permit. An appointment is requested from the closest Canadian visa office in the United States with instructions to issue a Minister's permit. The individual reports to the visa office on the agreed appointment date, picks up the Minister's permit, and returns to Canada. The individual makes an appointment with an immigration officer at an inland CIC to begin the procedures to become a permanent resident. 1, record 52, English, - buffalo%20shuffle

1, record 68, French, - abaissement%20brusque%20du%20plan%20d%27eau

Floating rate debentures have proved popular because of the protection they offer to investors during periods of very volatile interest rates. When interest rates are moving up, the interest paid on floating rate debentures is adjusted upwards every six months, with a resultant beneficial effect on the price and yield of the debentures. The disadvantage to these debentures is that when interest rates move down, the interest payable on them is adjusted downwards at six monthly intervals and hence their price and yield tends to move downwards faster than for most bonds. 2, record 69, English, - floating%20rate%20debenture

1, record 71, French, - traitement%20%C3%A0%20l%27acide
