Many important wildlife habitats are found on private properties, such as cottages, woodlots, ranches and farms. The people who own these lands play an important role in protecting such habitats by limiting certain activities and practices, and encouraging restoration and stewardship. But what happens if they can no longer care for their property, or it passes out of their hands? Since 1995, Environment Canada's Ecological Gifts Program has enabled individual and corporate landowners to protect their cherished piece of nature forever by donating ecologically sensitive land to an environmental charity or government body. An "ecogift" can be a donation of land or a partial interest in land - such as a conservation easement, covenant or servitude. In addition to the peace of mind of knowing that the land will be managed by the recipient according to mutually agreed-upon conservation goals and objectives, donors are also eligible to receive income tax benefits for their donation. 1, record 12, English, - Ecological%20Gifts%20Program

4, record 18, French, - kilodollar

Today, with the rapid development of new technologies, the heritage community is being presented with new and important opportunities. The Internet, more than just another medium, is a new environment in which heritage institutions have an active role to play. Simply find a cornice which weighs significantly more than a person and knock it down the slope. A cornice the size of a refrigerator or a small car bouncing down a slope provides an excellent stability test. The smaller the cornice, the less effective the test. Any computer center that has a secure computer operating mode needs a "break glass in case of emergency" computer program that will bypass all controls to modify or disclose any of the contents of the computer. Computers sometimes stop, malfunction ... or perform unexpectedly and need attention that normal access methods do not allow. In such cases, a universal access program is needed. This is similar in one way to a master key to be used if all other keys are lost ....

2, record 37, French, - midtown
