Although it is popularly thought that two-way video is needed for successful teleconferencing, research has shown that audio, graphic and computer systems that use existing narrow-band telephone circuits can effectively substitute for about 45% all business trips to meetings, whereas video adds only about 8% more substitution possibilities. (...) Widespread narrow-band teleconferencing therefore appears feasible in the near future at prices that are usually below the cost of travel.
