A territory that entered the Canadian Confederation in 1898 as the "Yukon Territory", out of the District of Yukon created in 1895 in the Northwest Territories. Until 1999, the Yukon used to stand eleventh in the order of precedence established according to the year of entry into Confederation of the ten provinces, then of the territories, listed, by convention, before the Northwest Territories even if the latter entered Confederation 28 years before. It now stands twelfth, after the Northwest Territories and before Nunavut. On March 27, 2002, the name was changed to "Yukon" even if the status of territory remains. 2, record 14, English, - Yukon
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The name of a territory and its form, spelling and abbreviation are to be decided by the provincial toponymy authority, with the agreement of the Government of Canada. One uses "Yukon" (or "territory of Yukon") for the geographical entity, "Yukon" for the provincial administration or as the short form, and "Yk." as the abbreviation to be officially recognized by the toponymic authority, a change from the previous "Y.T.". 2, record 14, English, - Yukon
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 2 OBS
Approved by ISO, the Canada Post two-character symbol is YT (or CA-YT), [to be changed to YK (or CA-YK) if a request to that extent is made and accepted]. This symbol is the same in all languages and must be used only in postal addresses and statistical charts where the identification of provinces and territories is restricted to two characters. A two-character territorial symbol must not be used instead of the abbreviation in a text or on a geographical map, a poster or a road sign. 2, record 14, English, - Yukon
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 3 OBS
The use of the definite article in English before "Yukon" is dependent upon how it is used in the context. If "Yukon" modifies another term, then the article is omitted. e.g. Yukon Indians comprise 25% of the population of the territory. If "Yukon" takes the inflected genitive ('s) , then the use of the article is optional. e.g. (the) Yukon's wildlife resources; (the) Yukon's native people. In every other case, the use of the definite article would be in keeping with common usage as it signals the absence of a generic geographic feature. Hence we say "the Mediterranean" (implied: Sea), "the Philippines" (implied: "Islands"). Currently, there is some debate as to the appropriateness of the definite article, all the more since "the Yukon" (implied: "territory") is seeking political parity with the other established "provinces" (statement of 1991). [Usage can thus tend to drop the article as is the case before the name of a province.] 6, record 14, English, - Yukon

3, record 14, French, - Yukon

The Period of PURPLE Crying® is the phrase used to describe the point in a baby’s life when they cry more than any other time. This period of increased crying is often described as colic, but there have been many misunderstandings about what “colic” really is. The Period of PURPLE Crying® is a new way to help parents understand this time in their baby’s life, which is a normal part of every infant’s development. It is confusing and concerning to be told your baby “has colic” because it sounds like it is an illness or a condition that is abnormal. When the baby is given colic medicine it reinforces the idea that there is something wrong with the baby when in fact the baby is going through a very normal developmental phase. That is why we prefer to refer to this time as the Period of PURPLE Crying®. No, it is not because the baby turns purple when he/she cries but provides a meaningful and memorable way to describe what parents and their babies are going through. The Period of PURPLE Crying® begins at about 2 weeks of age and continues until about 3-4 months. 2, record 65, English, - Period%20of%20PURPLE%20Crying%C2%AE

Societal reproduction is a combination of the organization of production, the organization of social reproduction, the perpetuation of gender, and the continuation of class relations. Social reproduction includes the care and socialization of children and care of the elderly or infirm. Social reproduction includes the organization of sexuality, biological reproduction, and how food, clothing, and shelter are made available. Most social reproduction occurs within the family unit. It is pointed out that variations in the distribution of the work of social reproduction are affected by the family, market, community, and state. 1, record 72, English, - social%20reproduction

1, record 72, French, - reproduction%20sociale

The Two Frame Gyroscope. When the rotor is spinning and the spin axis is in a horizontal plane a definite resistance will be felt owing to gyroscope inertia, at the same time the spin axis will begin to precess in a vertical plane and will continue to do so with sufficient power to lift light weights until all the gyroscopic inertia disappears due to the rotor slowing and stopping. The Three Frame Gyroscope. If the base of a three framed gyroscope is held in the hand with the rotor spinning and turned about any of the three axes, the rotor will continue to point in the original direction in space. 2, record 90, French, - gyroscope%20%C3%A0%20trois%20cadres

The foundation for Punto in Aria was a piece of fabric-backed parchment on which the design to be worked was drawn. A thread was couched down along the outline of the design, and the decorative bars were connected to the thread. When the needlework was complete, the couching thread was clipped, and the lace came away from the foundation in a single piece. At first the designs were the same as those used for reticella, but needleworkers quickly learned that the foundation threads could be couched down to form any shape desired, and patterns soon became more naturalistic. 1, record 91, English, - Punto%20in%20Aria%20lace

In the mid-1950s, daffodils were chosen to decorate the tables at a tea hosted by Lady Eaton in the downtown Toronto Eaton's store to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. The event was so popular that Canadian Cancer Society volunteers in Toronto created an annual Daffodil Day. The Daffodil Tea became an established event in many communities across the province. On Daffodil Day, some restaurants donated part of their receipts to the Canadian Cancer Society and patrons were given a daffodil as a token of appreciation. When restaurant patrons began offering to pay for their daffodils, Society volunteers realized they could raise funds by selling flowers. The following year, volunteers took to the streets to sell daffodils to the general public. An anonymous donor paid to fly 5,000 blooms from British Columbia, where the growing season starts early. Daffodil sales raised more than $1,200 in 1957 and became an annual event. Daffodil Day was eventually extended to Daffodil Days -- usually from Thursday to the first Sunday in April. Daffodil fundraising now takes place throughout Canada and across North America, Europe and Australia. 1, record 92, English, - Daffodil%20Days

The Riddler, real name Edward Nigma is a DC Comics supervillain, an enemy of Batman. Created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang, he first appeared in Detective Comics No. 140 (1948). Known for his green, question mark-covered costume (either as a skintight catsuit or a business suit and bowler hat), The Riddler is obsessed with riddles, puzzles, and word games. He delights in planning crimes and forewarning police and Batman of his capers by sending them often complex riddles. Many adaptations of the Batman mythos have given The Riddler the real name Edward Nigma (or Nygma) or E. Nigma. Occasionally his full name has been given as Edward E. Nigma. Some have depicted this as a false name and his real name as Edward Nashton. In the French and Quebecois translations of various Batman titles, his nom de plume has been translated to Le Sphinx, as in the riddle-posing monster of Greek mythology that Oedipus confronted. In Italy he's called Enigmista, the literal translation of "riddler". In Mexico and Latin America, The Riddler is known as El Acertijo, which literally means "The Riddle". In Brazil, the character is named Charada, which also means "Riddle". 1, record 96, English, - The%20Riddler

1, record 96, French, - Sphinx

Pruritus is prominent, and the consequent scratching and rubbing lead to lichenification, most typically in the antecubital and popliteal flexural areas. The eczema usually manifests itself after the first few months of life, appearing on the face and extensor areas of the extremities as acute and subacute, red, vesicular and oozing dermatitis. 2, record 97, English, - infantile%20eczema

One is education. Or what Sweden's Ylva Johansson referred to as the "knowledge divide". A very large percentage of teachers in the developing world - indeed, many in the developed world - do not have the knowledge themselves to teach the basic operating skills for information and communication technologies to their students. The challenge is not simply one of getting enough computers to the classroom. It is a problem of human software. The knowledge divide is a particularly dangerous challenge, because in middle class and poor countries the knowledge divide perpetuates social exclusion, and in the most basic way blocks any hope for individual empowerment in the communications revolution. 1, record 100, English, - knowledge%20divide

5, record 100, French, - foss%C3%A9%20du%20savoir
