The weight strength of an explosive is its percentage strength of blasting gelatine.

For instance, equivalent Weight Strengths (lb for lb) of ammonia gelatines and ammonia dynamites are given the same percentage ratings (gradings) as those corresponding to the NG content of a straight dynamite. A 50% ammonia dynamite has the same strength as a 50% straight dynamite even though it contains much less than 50% NG. Actually, it contains ammonium nitrate (AN) in addition.

Le CUP de l'acide picrique est pris égal à 100. Le WS de la blasting gelatine est pris égal à 100. En général, les dynamites industrielles ont un CUP supérieur à 100.
