... refiner mechanical pulp (RMP) ... is produced by the mechanical reduction of wood chips (and sometimes sawdust) in a disc refiner. The process usually involves the use of two refining stages operating in series (i.e. two-stage refining), and produces a longer-fibered pulp than conventional groundwood.

La fabrication industrielle de la pâte mécanique de raffineur(PMR) a commencé en 1960. On produit la PMR par la réduction mécanique de copeaux de bois(ou de sciures) dans un raffineur à disques. Le procédé met normalement en jeu deux étages de raffinage en série(on parle alors de raffinage à deux étages) et la pâte ainsi obtenue contient des fibres plus longues que la pâte mécanique classique.
