The more evident and more serious blisters are structural blisters. They occur in many forms of deformation and are not confined to the exposed surface. They are caused mainly by the expansion of trapped air and water-vapour or moisture or other gases. Air and moisture trapped within the construction tend to expand during a rise in air temperature or from the heat of the sun, and this expansion causes the plies of the roofing to separate and bulge the roof surface in a balloon effect. The blisters are spongy to the touch, and may occur between any of the layers of roofing felt, or between membrane and deck, or membrane and insulation. 3, record 4, English, - air%20pocket

1, record 5, French, - trou%20de%20neige%20%C3%A0%20la%20base%20des%20arbres

Strategy for [Avalanche] Victims. ... As the avalanche is coming to a stop. Make an air space around your mouth. ... Keep one hand near your mouth to scoop out an air space and wiggle to make an air space around your body. Your breath will quickly condense onto the snow around your mouth and form an "ice mask," an impermeable barrier that allows carbon dioxide to more quickly build up around your mouth. A larger space around your mouth tends to delay the formation of an ice mask, giving you extra precious minutes. Also, a cavity around your body lets the carbon dioxide diffuse more efficiently. It is thought that completely buried victims without an air pocket usually die in 20 minutes while victims with an air pocket can live up to 120 minutes. 2, record 6, English, - air%20pocket

Thermals are created by the uneven heating of the Earth's surface from solar radiation, and are an example of convection. The size and strength of thermals are influenced greatly by the properties of the lower atmosphere (the troposphere). The most important factor is the amount of atmospheric stability. Generally, when the atmosphere is less stable thermal formation is more likely. Thermals are often indicated by the presence of visible cumulus clouds. The rising air in a thermal cools as it ascends, until the water vapor in the air begins to condense into visible droplets. 5, record 10, English, - thermal

Closed circuit SCBA ... Compressed or liquid oxygen type. Equipped with a facepiece or mouthpiece and nose clamp. High-pressure oxygen from a gas cylinder passes through a high-pressure reducing valve and, in some designs, through a low-pressure admission valve to a breathing bag or container. Liquid oxygen is converted to low-pressure gaseous oxygen and delivered to the breathing bag. The wearer inhales from the bag, through a corrugated tube connected to a mouthpiece or facepiece and a one-way check valve. Exhaled air passes through another check valve and tube into a container of carbon-dioxide removing chemical and reenters the breathing bag. Make-up oxygen enters the bag continuously or as the bag deflates sufficiently to actuate an admission valve. 2, record 12, English, - breathing%20bag

Automobile tires after assembly on a drum are shaped to size and then vulcanized in engraved steel molds. The molds are stacked one on top of the other in vertical pot heaters, and steam is admitted to the closed heater. An air bag resembling an inner tube is inserted in the unvulcanized casing. Air, steam, hot water, or combinations of these are introduced into the air bag by flexible connections of copper tubing, expanding the tire carcass and causing the rubber to flow into the design of the mold. 2, record 13, English, - airbag

A number of design approaches were taken to control the sheet flutter problem, including changes in the pocket geometry and the use of air doctors to divert the more damaging air currents. However, the most widely utilized stratagem on existing machines was to switch to a single-felt configuration for the first dryer section where the sheet is most prone toward wrinkling. In the so-called serpentine felt run, the bottom felt is eliminated and the top felt follows the sheet and wraps both the top and bottom dryers. Thus, the felt supports the sheet in the draws between top and bottom dryer cylinders, but also runs between the sheet and the bottom dryer surfaces. The serpentine felt run is effective in controlling sheet flutter up to a point, but instabilities are still evident at higher speeds. Unfortunately, with this arrangement, the bottom tier of dryer cylinders becomes redundant. 1, record 15, English, - serpentine%20felt%20run

1, record 15, French, - feutre%20serpentin
