The main landing gear leg is attached to the aircraft by a trunnion assembly forming the upper part of the leg. Each of the two trunnion spigots is housed in a mount fitting assembly attached to the wing structure. This fitting is an aluminium alloy casting with an integral boss fitted with a spherical pintle bearing. Each fitting is attached to the aircraft by four bolts.

A telescoping landing-gear strut consisting essentially of a hollow piston that travels in an oil-filled cylinder, the oil, upon compression of the strut, being forced through a small orifice in the bottom of the piston to provide a shock-absorbing effect.

... the air-oleo strut in the landing gear ... consists of an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder (lower strut), a metering piston with an orifice, and a metering pin. The operation is such that when the airplane lands, the oil in the lower portion of the strut if forced upward through the orifice in the metering piston.

[...] la réaction [de l’amortisseur oléopneumatique] résulte de l’extrusion de l’huile à travers les ouvertures adéquates. Le rôle de l'amortisseur qui est souvent intérieur à la jambe de train, se décompose en trois fonctions :-créer des forces élastiques qui équilibrent le poids de l'avion afin d’assurer la suspension élastique de l'avion au sol;-absorber au maximum l'énergie cinétique qui est due à la vitesse verticale de l'avion au moment de l'atterrissage, ceci est voulu pour limiter les efforts transmis à la structure à une valeur aussi basse que possible;-amortir les oscillations verticales pendant le roulage. [...] Les premiers amortisseurs furent mécaniques puis en les améliorant, ce furent les amortisseurs oléo-mécaniques, actuellement les plus employés sont les amortisseurs oléo-pneumatiques, les amortisseurs hydrauliques purs n’ étant réservés qu'aux avions de très gros tonnage.
