Ces deux termes ne sont pas parfaitement synonymes, contrairement à leurs équivalents anglais. En effet, même si l’outil combiné et l’outil suisse accomplissent tous deux plusieurs opérations en un seul coup de presse, l’outil suisse réalise des opérations du même type (découpage, poinçonnage), alors que l’outil combiné associe, par exemple, un découpage et un emboutissage.
