In the Northern Hemisphere, the latitudinal and seasonal patterns of the early twentieth century warming are remarkably similar to the patterns predicted by the equilibrium response general circulation model study of Manabe and Stouffer for a quadrupling of CO2 concentration. If this similarity was a result of early twentieth century CO2 forcing then it may indicate that equilibrium models can give realistic results ... If CO2 [is] not the dominant forcing mechanism then this similarity supports the idea that the latitudinal patterns of climatic change are largely independent of the type of forcing. 3, record 14, English, - carbon%20dioxide%20forcing

The direct radiative effects of trace gases in the atmosphere are primarily due to their absorption in the infrared part of the spectrum. Most effective in this regard are gases with absorption in the parts of the spectrum where water vapour and CO2 are almost transparent (8-13 [micrometers]), the atmospheric window. If absorption bands for different gases overlap, the effects of a changing concentration on the radiative transfer are reduced. Gases with no change in their abundance do not directly contribute to a climatic change, but may affect the magnitude of the role of other constituents due to such overlapping of absorption bands. 3, record 20, English, - direct%20radiative%20effect

4, record 31, French, - transfert%20d%27%C3%A9nergie%20entre%20mol%C3%A9cules%20fluorescentes

Ozone molecules are constantly being made. But they can be destroyed by any of a number of chemical processes, most of them natural. For example, the stratosphere receives regular injections of nitrogen-bearing compounds, such as nitrous oxide (N2O). Produced by microbes and fossil-fuel combustion, the gas rides the rising air currents to the top of the troposphere. Forced higher still by the tremendous upward push of tropical storms, it finally enters and percolates slowly into the stratosphere. 5, record 37, English, - nitrogen%20species

The fluxes between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere are usually called surface fluxes. Many processes are involved such as evaporation from land and sea, warming and cooling of the earth, emission and deposition of gases and particles. These processes are vital to life and are being investigated in various scientific fields such as agriculture, bioclimatology, hydrology and meteorology. Surface fluxes traditionally are measured by instruments mounted on meteorological masts. Typical measurement data are wind speed, air temperature, air humidity and concentration of gases (eg CO2) and particles at several levels above ground. Calculation of surface fluxes are done by classical similarity-scaling equations on turbulent flow in the atmospheric boundary layer. Polar-night jet stream. This jet meanders through the upper stratosphere over the poles. It occurs only during the long winter night. Remember, night is 6 months long over the pole in which winter is occurring. The polar stratosphere undergoes appreciable cooling due to the lack of solar radiation. The horizontal temperature gradient is strongly established between the equator and the pole, and the pressure gradient creates this westerly jet. The temperature gradient breaks down intermittently during middle and late winter in the Northern Hemisphere; therefore, the jet is intermittent at these times. Crops grow reasonably well with widely different amounts of water in the atmosphere but when the air immediately surrounding the leaves becomes too dry, growth will be checked. If there is an adequate amount of water in the soil, supplied either by rain or irrigation, the plants can ordinarily absorb and transpire enough water to maintain a moderately moist atmosphere around the leaves, but when soil moisture is deficient and the evaporating power of the air is high, water will be lost from the leaves faster than it can be obtained from the soil and the plant will wilt and be unable to grow efficiently. Thus, the dryness of the air as well as the dryness of the soil is likely to limit crop production. 1, record 77, English, - evaporating%20power%20of%20the%20air

The only factors affecting ETo are climatic parameters. Consequently, ETo is a climatic parameter and can be computed from weather data. ETo expresses the evaporating power of the atmosphere at a specific location and time of the year and does not consider the crop characteristics and soil factors. CR-39 plastic nuclear track detectors (PNTDs) are made of polymers that are sensitive to charged particles of linear energy transfer (LET) greater than or equal to 5 keV/ micrometer. CR-39 PNTDs are usually made up of thin (approximately 0.6 mm) sheets which are assembled in multi-layer stacks exposed in three mutually-orthogonal orientations. Charged particles that pass through the CR-39 PNTD with enough LET break the molecular bonds of the polymer and form a pathway known as the "latent damage trail." As the amount of radiation the CR-39 PNTD is exposed to increases, so does the number of latent damage trails. 1, record 81, English, - CR%2D39%20plastic%20nuclear%20track%20detector

1, record 81, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20solide%20de%20traces%20nucl%C3%A9aires

The direct radiative effects of trace gases in the atmosphere are primarily due to their absorption in the infrared part of the spectrum. Most effective in this regard are gases with absorption in the parts of the spectrum where water vapour and CO2 are almost transparent (8-13 micrometers), the atmospheric window. Record number: 98, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 98, French, - radiatif

The oceans influence the climate response in two fundamentally important ways. First, because of the importance of the H2O greenhouse feedback, the response of the tropospheric temperatures and even the land surface temperatures would be governed by the warming of the ocean surface. If for some reason the ocean does not respond to the greenhouse heating, the H2O feedback would be turned off since increased evaporation from the warmer ocean is the primary source for increasing atmospheric H2O. 1, record 100, English, - H2O%20feedback
