Le pro-nonce, par contre, ne jouit d’aucune préséance spéciale. D'ailleurs, la création de ce nouveau titre est intimement lié à ce problème de préséance et de décanat. Face à l'évolution de la pratique diplomatique concernant le nivellement des missions diplomatiques au rang d’ambassade, et, en même temps, au refus de nombreux États-notamment l'Asie et l'Afrique-de reconnaître au nonce un tel privilège, le Saint-Siège a institué ce titre de pro-nonce qui, étymologiquement, signifie : au lieu du nonce-pour assurer la direction d’une partie de ces nonciatures.

The CCCB is the national assembly of the Bishops of Canada. It was founded in 1943 and officially recognized by the Holy See in 1948. Since the Second Vatican Council, it became part of a worldwide network of Episcopal Conferences, established in 1965, as an integral part of the life of the universal Church. Up until 1977, it was called the Canadian Catholic Conference. The change reflects more clearly the fact that it is an association of Bishops.

There is often confusion between the terms Nuncios and apostolic delegates. The nuncios are usually titular bishops or archbishops and have a double function: representing the pope before the civil government and also before the Church in the country. The apostolic delegates on the other hand deal only with the church within the country to which they are sent and they are not accredited to the government and do not have a political role.
