La scie-fil de Gigli se manipule fil tendu à l'aide des poignées prévues ou de deux pinces Kocher(le fil est alors pincé près de l'articulation de la pince pour avoir la force de scier). Il faut protéger les parties molles de la poussière d’os qui en résulte.

La scie de Gigli est très utile pour amorcer la séparation de la pièce fémorale du ciment ou de l'os quand le composant n’ est pas scellé.
