determinate (D) plants are more compact, bushy, and short-lived in nature. They generally have one main growth spurt, reach a certain size, and then yield a single large set of fruit all at once (or during a short period of time). Once a mature determinate plant has produced its main “bumper crop”, the plant will drastically slow down in production or stop growing entirely. Bush tomatoes and bush green beans are prime examples of determinate plants. 1, record 5, English, - determinate%20plant

The two series of pot experiments were carried out at the Department of Plant Production Ecology in Uppsala, Sweden (63o81′N, 20o24′E) during 2007. The effects of the pre-planting treatments were tested in two outdoor pot trials arranged in rows 2 m [meters] apart and with 40 cm [centimeters] spacing between plants. Mitscherlich pots were filled with 4 L of planting soil and one seed tuber (40–50 mm [milimeters]) was planted per pot. After planting, an additional 1.5 L [liter] soil were added, giving a planting depth of 5 cm. The experiments were laid out in a completely randomized design, with 10 replicates and three potato cultivars in each experiment. The cultivars used were Matilda, Cicero and Ditta in Experiment 1, and Matilda, Ditta and Ovatio in Experiment 2. The pots were kept outdoors from 11 June to 23 July (Experiment 1) and 16 June to 31 July (Experiment 2). The main differences between the experiments were the length of the pre-sprouting period and cultivars.

The Besselian elements are a series of time-dependent variables used to calculate various aspects of a solar eclipse. They describe the movement of the Moon's shadow with respect to the fundamental plane. This plane passes through the center of Earth and is oriented perpendicular to the Moon's shadow axis. Next, the shadow cone is projected onto Earth's surface including the effects of Earth's rotation, the flattening of Earth and the latitude, longitude and elevation of the observer. The local circumstances at the observer's position can then be calculated including the eclipse contact times, eclipse magnitude and the duration of totality (or annularity). 2, record 34, English, - Besselian%20element

Put simply, a solar eclipse is a shadow play between three actors: the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. Illuminated by the Sun, the Moon casts a shadow out into space: a long, thin cone, stretching about 374,000 km out into space, called the umbra. Anyone inside that umbral cone will see the Sun completely blocked out by the Moon. Surrounding the umbra, there is a zone where the Sun is only partly hidden: this is known as the penumbra. Extending out from the tip of the umbral cone is a part of the penumbra known as the antumbra, which comes into play during annular eclipses. 2, record 37, English, - antumbra

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. People viewing the eclipse from locations where the Moon's shadow completely covers the Sun – known as the path of totality – will experience a total solar eclipse. The sky will become dark, as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun's corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun. 3, record 42, English, - path%20of%20totality

1, record 53, French, - producteur%20primaire

To produce the UV index forecast, Environment and Climate Change Canada takes data from ozone measuring stations across the country to determine the present thickness of the ozone layer. A computer model then forecasts the thickness of the ozone layer over Canada for the next day. Combining the forecast of the ozone layer with data about the height and the angle of the sun gives a UV forecast for the next day, for a clear sunny sky. Adding the amount of cloud predicted in the weather forecast then gives the amount of UV that can actually be expected. The forecast gives the maximum amount of UV expected for the day. On a clear day with no clouds, this occurs at noon (or 1 p.m. for those on daylight time), when the sun is highest in the sky. 3, record 70, English, - ultraviolet%20index%20forecast

2, record 81, French, - Yule

Positive radiative forcing means Earth receives more incoming energy from sunlight than it radiates to space. This net gain of energy will cause warming. Conversely, negative radiative forcing means that Earth loses more energy to space than it receives from the sun, which produces cooling. 4, record 96, French, - for%C3%A7age%20radiatif%20n%C3%A9gatif

Global dimming is not thought to be due to changes in the sun's luminosity, as these have been too small to explain the magnitude of dimming observed. Instead, air pollution from human activity is thought to be the major contributor. Aerosols which form from pollution can directly reflect and absorb radiation before it reaches the planet's surface and make clouds brighter and longer lasting, meaning they reflect more sunlight. 2, record 97, English, - global%20dimming
