Dans son sens premier, récipiendaire ne désigne pas celui qui reçoit, mais celui qui est reçu dans une académie, un club, une loge. Exemple : Le discours du récipiendaire a créé un vif émoi à l'Académie. Par extension, on admet aujourd’hui récipiendaire pour désigner celui qui reçoit un diplôme universitaire ou celui qui est bénéficiaire d’une nomination(Dict. Robert).
