Soudage en bout par résistance pure. Les pièces, chacune serrée dans une paire de mâchoires et reliée à une borne du secondaire d’un transformateur de soudage, sont amenées en contact, puis pressées l'une contre l'autre. Les extrémités s’échauffent par effet Joule. Lorsqu'elles ont atteint une température suffisante, on leur applique l'effort de refoulement nécessaire et elles se soudent par forgeage. L'effort de refoulement entraîne la formation d’un bourrelet au droit du joint. Ce procédé nécessite des surfaces propres et convenablement dressées afin que le contact se fasse sur toute la surface des pièces.
