Soudage avec arc pulsé.-Dans le cas de tôles très minces, la pénétration est difficile à maîtriser et l'échauffement des tôles peut devenir inacceptable. Pour y remédier, on peut employer une méthode TIG dans laquelle l'intensité de l'arc est juste suffisante pour le maintenir, tandis qu'une onde carrée lui est superposée pour provoquer la fusion intermittente des tôles. On obtient ainsi, suivant la fréquence de l'onde de courant pulsé, une suite continue ou discontinue de «noyaux». Les pièces se refroidissent quelque peu entre chaque pulsation.
