In addition to extraction of the glucosinolates from RSM as a means of overcoming their toxicity, many investigators have attempted chemical alternation of the glucosinolates to destroy or remove the toxic compounds. Some have added unheated crushed rapeseed to the meal to provide a source of myrosinase, so as to autolyse the glucosinolates and liberate isothiocyanates, which are then steam volatilised. This is only partially successful since most of the isothiocyanates formed in rapeseed meal are not sufficiently volatile to flash off. Others have tried ammonia treatment and heat, cooking with soda under pressure, or treatment with ferrous salts and distillation. 3, record 1, English, - isothiocyanate

2, record 1, French, - isothiocyanate

A fabric treatment process, through which the fabric or yarn is immersed in a caustic soda solution and later neutralized in acid ... process [which] causes a permanent swelling of the fiber, resulting in an increased luster on the surface of the fabric, an increased affinity for dyes, and increased strength. 4, record 2, English, - mercerization
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 DEF
A treatment of cotton yarn or fabric to increase its luster and affinity for dyes. The material is immersed under tension in a cold sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) solution in warp or skein form or in the piece, and is later is neutralized in acid. The process causes a permanent swelling of the fiber and thus increasing its luster. 4, record 2, English, - mercerization
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Mercerizing with ammonia. The treatment of cellulose with liquid ammonia is far less harsher than with concentrated caustic soda solutions. [...] The ammonia can be almost totally recovered after treatment, distilled and re-cycled; it is therefore environmental friendly and can be considered as non-polluant. 5, record 2, English, - mercerization

3, record 3, French, - produit%20chimique%20de%20base
