Un spectrophotomètre infrarouge ou spectrophotomètre IR est un appareil permettant de mesurer l'absorbance de solution dans le domaine de l'infrarouge. Le rayonnement émis par le spectrophotomètre va exciter les liaisons chimiques comprises dans la solution à étudier. Les déformations et élongations subies par ces liaisons vont ensuite être retransmises au spectrophotomètre. Après la lecture des vibrations, l'appareil va pouvoir présenter les différentes fonctions chimiques présentes dans l'échantillon.
