TASSEMENT TERRAIN [5 records]

Record 1 2011-09-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Glaciology
CONT

... comprehensive pipeline integrity and environmental load monitoring programs are essential in the absence of standardized design guidelines for buried gas pipelines and return periods criteria for northern terrain-related environmental loads (such as frost heave, thaw settlement or thaw slides).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Glaciologie
CONT

Record 2 2011-09-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
  • Drilling and Boring (Construction)
CONT

... it is common for pipelines in northern settings to experience ditch settlement, and this is expected along the pipeline right-of-way in permafrost and organic terrain. Based on the experience of other northern pipeline projects, local settlement of the pipeline ditch immediately following construction can be greater than general right-of-way settlement.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
  • Sondage et forage (Construction)
CONT

Record 3 1990-09-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sewers and Drainage
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
CONT

Mineral clogging starts to develop at the interface between the geotextile (or pipe wall) and the adjacent soil. It is therefore defined as a contact process. Two clogging processes can be distinguished: contact erosion ... which occurs when particles of nearly all sizes are washed out locally and contact suffosion ... when only the fine particles are washed out leaving a skeleton, consisting of coarser particles, behind. In subsurface drainage systems, contact erosion should be restricted. Contact suffosion is allowed, provided however that the envelope does not clog.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Égouts et drainage
  • Mécanique des sols
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
CONT

A common type of load test, using only a single pile, in which only the head settlement is measured under fairly rapid application of loads, [etc.] ... provides such doubtful information that a correct interpretation may be difficult if not entirely impossible.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fondations profondes
  • Mécanique des sols
CONT
