[The] mortality rate estimates are based on the number of deaths relative to the number of confirmed cases of infection, which is not representative of the actual death rate ... Notably, the full denominator remains unknown because asymptomatic cases or patients with very mild symptoms might not be tested and will not be identified. Such cases therefore cannot be included in the estimation of actual mortality rates ... 5, record 1, English, - actual%20mortality%20rate

... it is impossible to find out anything definite about the actual mortality rate during the years covered by the left limb and dome of the [catch] curve, simply because sampling of the population is not random ... We turn then to a more promising part of the curve, the descending right limb. [When certain] conditions are satisfied, the right limb is, in actuarial language, a curve of survivorship which is both age-specific and time-specific. 3, record 2, English, - descending%20right%20limb

3, record 2, French, - membre%20droit%20descendant

Mortality is a key component to understanding population dynamics of fish species. Total mortality is often estimated from the sequential decline observed in cohorts of fish. ... catch curve [methods are] used to analyze this decline ... All catch curves have three regions of interest: an ascending left limb, a domed middle portion, and a descending right limb ... The ascending left limb represents age-classes of fish that are not yet fully vulnerable to the gear used in fishery. Fish in these age-classes are said to have "not fully recruited to the fishery." The catches of fish in these age-classes are not useful for estimating the total mortality rate. 4, record 3, English, - ascending%20left%20limb
