The simplest turbines have one moving part, a rotor assembly, which is a shaft with blades attached. Moving fluid acts on the blades, or the blades react to the flow, so that they rotate and impart energy to the rotor. Early turbine examples are windmills and water wheels. When a turbine comes to rest, after operating, the cooler denser steam tends to collect in the lower half of the cylinder and makes the lower half of the rotor cool quicker than the upper half. This causes the shaft to hog (bend upwards). When at rest and cool, the shaft will begin to sag under its own weight. If the turbine shaft is not rotated, hogging, especially above a critical temperature, can become permanent and the shaft would have to be sent to the manufacturer for heat treatment and straightening. 1, record 9, English, - hogging

1, record 9, French, - fl%C3%A9chissement%20vers%20le%20haut

Rectangular trough divided into interconnected square compartments, into each of which low-pressure air is stirred through a system of revolving teeth and stationary baffles to produce copious air bubbles which search the mineralised pulp flowing from feed to discharge end of the trough. These bubbles lift aerophilic particles to an overflow (froth) launder while hydrophilic ones remain in the pulp and are separately discharged. 3, record 16, English, - Agitair%20flotation%20machine
