Irregularity in the diffusion of solute molecules that occurs in a porous chromatographic support, by the rapid process of mixing of the swirling eddies of the fluid. The phenomenon is due to the fact that (a) the pathlength for some solute molecules is either shorter or longer than that for the bulk of the molecules; and (b) the rate of solvent flow varies in different regions of the porous support. 2, record 3, English, - Eddy%20diffusion
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Non-ideal flow occurs when different elements of substrate move through the reactor at varying rates such that they are in contact with the enzyme for variable periods owing to their differing residence times in the reactor giving an opportunity for different extents of reaction to take place and for further reaction of the desired product and side-reactions to take place. Non-ideal flow can be caused by factors such as back-mixing, channelling, or the presence of stagnant flow regions within the reactors.... Eddy diffusion also causes inhomogeneous distribution of fluid. This effect occurs when there are variations in the size and shape of the support particles and because of the tendency of the larger particles to become packed close to the walls of the column such that the flow rate varies over the cross-section of the column. 3, record 3, English, - Eddy%20diffusion

1, record 3, French, - diffusion%20turbulente

Small-scale atmospheric turbulence is evident in the fluctuations of wind speed and direction recorded by an anemograph. Such fluctuations are greatest within the atmospheric boundary layer' and are much influenced by the nature of the surface over which the air flows and by other factors such as the degree of static stability of the air. 3, record 5, English, - small%2Dscale%20turbulence

Beyond the understanding of the transition to turbulence ... the problem remains of the nature of developed turbulence characterized by an energy cascade from large scale coherent structures where energy is injected to small-scale intermittent structures where it is dissipated (Kolmogorov, 1941). Though a global picture is still lacking, we may hope to gain a deeper insight into this problem by combining recent advances in the theory of space-time chaos with our understanding of dissipative dynamical systems, the first being perhaps more adapted to small scales and the second more relevant for the description of the large scales. 1, record 7, English, - developed%20turbulence

2, record 7, French, - turbulence%20d%C3%A9velopp%C3%A9e
