What is uranium enrichment? Enrichment is a process that increases the capacity of uranium to fuel a nuclear chain reaction, either for use in nuclear power plants or for nuclear weapons. Uranium primarily occurs naturally as two isotopes: 99.3% is uranium-238 and 0.7% is uranium-235. Their atoms are identical except for the number of neutrons in the nucleus: uranium-238 has three more and this makes it less able to fission. Uranium enrichment is used to increase the percentage of the fissile U-235. 2, record 2, English, - uranium%20enrichment

Differential Display (DD) ... and a conceptually similar technique, arbitrarily primed PCR fingerprinting of RNA (APPCR)19, both PCR amplify subsets of an mRNA population and separate the resulting cDNAs by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Since the introduction of DD in 1992, over 100 reports regarding improvements and/or successful applications have been published. Although DD has the appearance of being technically easy, the road from "band on the gel" to a positive can be treacherous as outlined in a recent commentary. The primary criticisms are (1) a high false positive rate, (2) questioned ability of DD to identify both abundant and rare mRNAs, (3) coding regions of mRNAs are usually not cloned, and (4) verification process is time consuming and usually requires a fair amount of RNA. 5, record 16, English, - differential%20display

2, record 18, French, - rotor%20ouvert

Many enzymes, especially the more common ones, are known by short trivial names that usually end in the suffix -ase. However, this can lead to confusion, hence the use of a specific name according to the rules of the international enzyme classification system is preferable. This system provides both a systematic name and a four-part classification number. The first number of the code places the enzyme into one of six groups, indicating the type of reaction involved. Method based on the covalent attachment of enzymes to water insoluble matrices. It is the most widespread and one of the most investigated approaches to enzyme immobilisation. The selection of conditions for immobilization is more difficult than in the cases of the other carrier binding methods described, and frequently involves more complicated and less mild conditions than the other methods, but, since covalent bonds are being formed, stable immobilized enzyme preparations which do not leach enzyme into solution in the presence of substrate or high ionic concentration solutions are formed in almost all cases. The immobilization of an enzyme by covalent attachment to a support matrix must involve only functional groups of the enzyme that are not essential for catalytic action, and therefore no reagents must be used which could affect the binding and active sites of the enzyme. 2, record 29, English, - covalent%20binding

1, record 39, French, - planeur%20%C3%A0%20r%C3%A9action

The term ENL reaction has been in use for a long time because of the crops of erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) which often are present. However, because of the numerous symptoms in addition to ENL, some of which may occur in the absence of ENL, some authors prefer the name "type 2 reaction". In other words, the new name covers all the manifestations of the symptom-complex rather than a particular one, and the name ENL can be reserved for the erythema nodosum lesions when they occur. 5, record 58, English, - type%202%20reaction

anaerobic filter system. A technology used in anaerobic digestion suited to liquid effluents with high levels of dissolved organic matter and relatively low levels of particulate solids. In an anaerobic filter, the biomass is retained by trapping or immobilizing on a fixed carrier which may be in the form of large plates, specially designed random plastic supports, or broken pieces of rock or similar material. The reactor may be run as a continuous process in either an upflow or a downflow mode. Retention of the cells on a support gives a high ratio of solids retention time to hydraulic retention time, permitting high rates of throughput. 2, record 73, English, - anaerobic%20filter%20reactor

The water activity exerts a strong influence on enzyme activity and stability. This phenomenon must be fully appreciated in order to analyze the effect of a compound on enzyme efficiency, and so as not to misinterpret as direct an indirect effect caused by a modification of water activity. Furthermore, from a technological viewpoint, a better understanding of this phenomenon may allow rationalization of the operation of enzyme catalysts and their improved efficiency. 1, record 74, English, - enzyme%20efficiency

1, record 74, French, - efficacit%C3%A9%20enzymatique
