L'UGEQ(Union générale des étudiants du Québec) est créée en 1964 par plus d’une centaine de délégués des principales associations étudiantes du Québec dont le projet est de former une organisation étudiante à l'échelle du Québec. Elle devient effectivement une organisation centrale des étudiants du Québec à de multiples niveaux de formation; universitaire, pré-universitaire et professionnel. Elle a pour mission de promouvoir l'accessibilité générale à l'enseignement supérieur et la démocratisation du système d’éducation. Dans sa charte, il est mentionné qu'elle doit informer les étudiants, canaliser les revendications, définir les centres d’intérêts en plus d’offrir différents services. L'UGEQ repose sur trois structures principales : l'assemblée générale annuelle des délégués des associations étudiantes membres, le conseil central national ou comité de coordination(Comcor) et le comité exécutif, formé d’un président et de cinq à sept vice-présidents. The World Festival of Youth and Students is an international event, organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), a left-wing yough organization, jointly with the International Union of Students since 1947. The largest festival was the 6th, held in 1957 in Moscow, when 34,000 young people from 131 countries attended the event. This festival also marked the international debut of the song "Moscow Nights", which subsequently went on to become perhaps the most widely recognized Russian song in the world. During the Cold War many festivals were held in capitals of Communist states because of the enormous expenditure and coordination required to support a youth festival.
