OSPAR is the mechanism by which fifteen governments of the western coasts and catchments of Europe, together with the European Union, cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. It started in 1972 with the Oslo Convention against dumping. It was broadened to cover land-based sources and the offshore industry by the Paris Convention of 1974. These two conventions were unified, up-dated and extended by the 1992 OSPAR Convention. ... The Nadezhda K. Krupskaya Prize, the International Reading Association Literacy Award, the Noma Prize and the Iraq Literacy Prize were established in 1969, 1979, 1980 and 1981 respectively through the generosity of the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the International Reading Association and the Government of Irak. These prizes are awarded at the Unesco Headquarters in Paris, by THE JURY appointed by the Director-General to award the Nadezhda K.
