Les bruches des Légumineuses ont une importance économique certaine, car plusieurs espèces sont capables de détruire complètement un stock de graines en quelques générations. Le Callosobruchus maculatus, ou bruche à quatre taches, a été trouvé dans sept différentes espèces de légumineuses, à savoir vohème, pois du cap, ambérique, haricot, dolique, lentille et voandzo bory. La bruche maculée(Callosobruchus maculatus Fab.) et le charançon du riz(Sitophilus oryzae L.) ont été isolés à Yamoussoukro à partir de graines de Phaseolus et de Vigna pour la première, de graines de maïs pour le second; ils ont été élevés en boîtes de plastique sur niébé(Vigna unguiculata(L.) Walp.) pour la bruche et sur maïs(Zea mays L.) pour le charançon, à l'obscurité au laboratoire de l'École nationale supérieure agronomique de Yamoussoukro.
