Histoire : Elle fut découverte en 1551 par F. Magellan. En 1898 (traité de Paris), après la guerre hispano-américaine, Guam fut cédée aux États-Unis. Durant la 2e Guerre mondiale, les Japonais occupèrent l’île en 1941; elle fut reprise par les Américains en 1944 et devient une des principales bases des bombardiers chargés d’attaquer le Japon à la fin de la guerre.
