Externally powered (hand-cranked) gun first made in 1862 and which achieved a relatively fast rate of fire (1000-1200 rounds per minute) by having a number of rotating barrels which fired in turn when the 12 o'clock position was reached. Modern weapons using the Gatling gun principle are driven by electric motors and can fire up to 6000 rounds per minute, e.g. 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon, 7.62 mm M134 Minigun machine-gun and 5.56 mm M214 Six-Pak machine-gun. 2, record 13, English, - Gatling%20gun
