Un choc ou un traumatisme sur une articulation déclenchera souvent un épanchement séro-sanguin qui, s’il est important, devra être ponctionné avec une aseptie rigoureuse pour éviter la survenue d’une arthrite septique. Cet épanchement se réduira souvent à une simple hydarthrose qui pourra entraîner une véritable inflammation articulaire plus ou moins chronique caractérisée, en plus de l'épanchement résiduel, par des douleurs essentiellement au démarrage, avec atrophie musculaire et craquements et une limitation articulaire.

Septic arthritis develops when bacteria or other tiny disease-causing organisms (microorganisms) spread through the bloodstream to a joint. It may also occur when the joint is directly infected with a microorganism from an injury or during surgery. The most common sites for this type of infection are the knee and hip.

An inflammation of a synovial membrane.

CONT

This membrane lines joints which possess cavities, known as synovial joints. The condition is usually painful, particularly when the joint is moved. The joint usually swells due to synovial fluid collection. Synovitis may occur in association with arthritis as well as lupus, gout, and other conditions.
