A quantum dot, also called a "qdot" or a "nanodot," is a semiconductor nanocrystal that is less or equal to 10 nm in size, and confines the motion of conduction band electrons in the three spatial directions. So, by definition, quantum dots are able to trap electrons. A given quantum dot contains a finite number of conduction band electrons typically in the range of 1 to 100. The energy levels of these electrons can be explained by using quantum physics, hence the name "quantum dots." 2, record 12, English, - quantum%20dot

1, record 15, French, - exofuller%C3%A8ne

If blanket modules contain lithium, a reaction occurs: the incoming neutron is absorbed by the lithium atom, which recombines into an atom of tritium and an atom of helium. The tritium can be removed from the blanket and recycled into the plasma as fuel. Blankets containing lithium are thus considered "breeding blankets" for tritium. Within the fusion reaction, tritium can be bred indefinitely. 2, record 24, English, - tritium%20breeding%20blanket

3, record 24, French, - couverture%20tritig%C3%A8ne

Molecular cages ... are hollow nano-sized ... compounds that consist of organic molecules or ions and, in most cases, metal ions. They share many structural features with, for example, viruses whose shells (capsids) are composed of organized proteins. One of the most significant feature of molecular cages is their ability to bind and release guest molecules depending on the prevailing conditions. Hence, some of their most important potential applications include biomedicinal uses (transport of drugs), storing of unstable and/or reactive molecules and recovery of hazardous compounds from aquatic environments. 3, record 25, English, - molecular%20cage

Oxophilicity is the tendency of certain chemical compounds to form oxides by hydrolysis or abstraction of oxygen, often from organic compounds. The term is usually used to describe metal centers, commonly the early transition metals such as titanium, niobium, and tungsten. Oxophilic metals are classified as "hard" within the HSAB [hard and soft acids and bases] concept. Many main group compounds are also oxophilic, such as derivatives of aluminium, silicon, and phosphorus(V). The handling of oxophilic compounds often requires air-free techniques. 2, record 44, English, - oxophile

The first step toward understanding the role of atomic fluctuations in protein function is to determine the nature of the fluctuations themselves. This includes the study of their magnitude (how large they are), their probability (how often they occur) and their time scale (how long they take). The most direct approach to protein dynamics is to treat each atom in the protein as a particle responding to forces in the way prescribed by Newtonian physics, in accord with Newton's equations of motion. 3, record 46, English, - atomic%20fluctuation

Hence it forms one of the reason for attenuation of X-ray beam as it passes through the matter. 3, record 62, English, - photoelectric%20effect

2, record 72, French, - compos%C3%A9%20organique

SIAM is a technology that defies the current laws of imaging. It permits scientists to view images much smaller than the wavelength of light and approaching the atomic level, an achievement that has long been considered impossible according to the basic principles of classical optics. SIAM works by shining light through a thin sample onto an ultra-sharp, vibrating tip on the other side. The light scattering from the tip gets altered as the tip approaches within a nanometer from the sample surface, as it vibrates, due to the optical interaction with the local properties of the sample. An image is built up by recording the scattered light as the probe is scanned line by line. The scientists recorded the variations in the scattered light using a very sensitive device --an optical interferometer-- which is capable of measuring modulations in light level corresponding to single photons. As the tip moved across the surface, these variations were mapped by a computer into a picture of the surface, showing features such as oil droplets and steps on mica that were only a few atoms in size. 3, record 73, English, - scanning%20interferometric%20apertureless%20microscope

1, record 73, French, - SIAM

The nanoassembler would also have the ability to reproduce itself in anticipation of a given task, then, presumably, disassemble those nanoassemblers no longer needed, harvesting the raw materials for subsequent projects. 3, record 76, English, - nanoassembler

2, record 83, French, - fuller%C3%A8ne%20endo%C3%A9drique

The injection of natural gas and urea has been shown to enhance the NOx reduction potential of the natural gas in utility boilers. The chemical kinetics mechanisms of FLGR® and SNCR have many of the same selective reactions. The injection of natural gas in hot, low oxygen furnace gas results in the formation of hydrocarbon radicals (CHi) and the subsequent formation of nitrogen radicals. The injection of urea (NH2-CO-NH2) results in the formation of similar nitrogen radicals. Both of these reagents reduce NOx to molecular nitrogen through a series of similar reactions. 8, record 96, English, - nitrogen%28%26%23183%3B%29
