2, record 27, French, - courbure

At the end of the J stroke, the paddle is kniffed forward underwater with the power face of the paddle almost flat and facing up. Steering is accomplished by pulling up on the blade as it is brought forward. About halfway through the recovery, the paddle is allowed to slip out of the water in readiness for the next power stroke. The trick is getting a very slight angle on the blade as it comes forward. If the angle is wrong the paddle will plane out of the water or drive too deep. The angle is controlled by the upper hand. 2, record 33, English, - Canadian%20stroke

Another aid designed to enable the airplane to fly at low airspeeds is the slat on the leading edge of the wing. The slat is an airfoil which works automatically and its purpose is to reduce stalling speed. It is not spring-loaded but rather operates as a result of changing air pressures as the aircraft reduces speed. As the airplane approaches stalling speed, the slat moves forward and creates an opening between itself and the wing. The rush of air through the narrow opening and over the wing restores the lift of the wing. 2, record 37, English, - slat

1, record 59, French, - volet%20inclinable%20tourbillonnaire
